Backup and data interchange solutions for the seismic industry

Since the start of Avax, the company has offered specialized tape solutions to suit the Seismic industry. Products are mostly updated tape solutions used to enhance the use of older field systems or products to enhance these products in some way.

Tape Copy
The first tape copy product we offered was a simple PC based system to copy 9 track field seismic tapes using a single tape drive. Later products were made specifically to copy tapes at high speed to allow the copies to be produced as fast as data was recorded on board seismic survey vessels. Systems presently available can copy between multiple media types to allow data to be produced on the media required by the various clients without any data format changes.

Well Logging
With the increase in the amounts of data produced in well logging the traditional 1/2 open reel LIS tapes are being replaced by more cost effective modern tape drives. Avax has produced new products for the industry but has retained the traditional tape interface so allowing integration without the need for either costly software changes or new interfaces in the system.

Avax now offers the availability of units that "look" like a tape drive to the host system but use Flash cards or disk drive as the recording medium.

Tape Libraries
Avax offers a complete range of tape libraries in all currentformats. Once you set up the tape library and install the tape-inventory software, the network administrator sets a backup schedule and simply changes the magazine once per week or month.

Connect almost any tape drive to practically any system. Complete emulation of standard manufacturer supplied drives for "plug and play" operation.

Half inch tape solutions
Avax still offers a complete range of half-inch tape solutions - both reel-to-reel and 3480/3490/3490E types.

SCSI Switches
Used to share devices or to switch all the peripherals between a live and back-up system in a failback situation; making more use of existing peripherals by allowing them to be shared across multiple platforms.

Extenders
A hardware device which allows a SCSI bus to operate over a distance of up to 40 kilometers using fibre optic cables; a major step forwards for high availability distributed processing, delivering the advantage of both speed and distance for open SCSI working.

Avax offers a complete range of SCSI-SCSI converters enabling departments to use existing equipment to do what they want, where they want. Using single ended SCSI to differential SCSI converters the bus length available is 35 metres and is less susceptible to noise so is better for use in industrial or other specialist applications.
