SANSmartTM Fibre Channel Option
TLS-Series SANSmart automated tape libraries are ideally suited to Storage Area Network (SAN) applications, especially the latest serverless backup storage management applications such as Legatos Celestra and Computer Associates ARCserve 2000. Storage Area Networks are sub-nets that enable key storage resources like tape libraries and storage arrays to be shared among multiple servers and clients without impacting the "primary" network. SAN provide separate, dedicated high-speed pathways tailored specifically to storage access and storage management.
Serverless backup uses the SCSI extended copy command to control data transfers between storage devices on the SAN without the backup data passing through the backup server. Backup time is shortened and the load on the backup server is greatly reduced.
SAN technology, based on Fibre Channel, is being adopted by other storage management applications, including video serving, image and document archives, and storage migration.
Twenty-seven TLS-Series tape library models support up to 12 tape drives, delivering data transfer rates exceeding 800 gigabytes per hour and storage capacities from 200 gigabytes to over 52 terabytes.
The SAN will deliver high transfer speeds, improved availability, and enhanced application performance. SAN architectures eliminate constraints of distance, scalability, and connectivity.
The SANSmart Fibre Channel Option (FCO) delivers the performance and connectivity that SAN backup tape library applications require. Single and dual FCOs are supported to speed backup data flow.
