High capacity QIC & SCSI tape units

The Avax family of high capacity 1/4" or DDS DAT format tape drives is available with either QIC02 or SCSI interface.

QIC units are designed to interface directly to the manufacturer supplied interface on any system that currently supports a low capacity (40 to 150MB) cartridge tape e.g. IBM S/36, Bull DPX series. The drives directly replace the older drives and the 1/4" units include the ability to read the existing low capacity cartridges, thus ensuring that all existing data is still available to the user.

SCSI interface units are provided with built-in drive emulation to enable direct connection via standard manufacturer supplied SCSI interface to most computer platforms including IBM (AS/400 and RS/6000), Unisys, Sequent, Tandem, DEC, Bull, SUN, most Unix based platforms and most PC Network systems. Since the drive fully emulates standard supported devices, no special software is required.

High capacity QIC drives are available in capacities from 525MB to 4GB with a data transfer rate of up to 18MB/minute. All drives are upgradeable for attachment to standard SCSI systems e.g. IBM AS/400.
