Dual Format Tape UnitsThe AMT-4800/D Enhanced Tape Array unit for Tandem systems has the capability of producing tapes in 4mm (DDS-1 or DDS-2) format, 8mm format, or both simultaneously. With built-in data compression the drives provide up to 10GB capacity with data transfer rates of up to 1MB per second.*
The Enhanced Array controller performs all necessary drive emulations to enable connection to the Tandem controller (3681 or 3214). Since the Array fully emulates a standard Tandem 517x 6250 BPI tape drive, no special software is required. For users who already have a full complement of Tandem tape drives, the Enhanced Tape Array can be configured with a built-in switch which allows the user to dynamically select either the Enhanced Array or the Tandem tape unit.
The Enhanced Tape Array features an easy to use configuration menu which allows the operator to select any of the following features:
- Off line tape duplication
- Off line tape diagnostics
- Engineering sub menu for off line configuration
- Firware changes/upgrades from tape

Total capacity is given assuming a data compression ratio of 2:1 for 8mm and 2.5:1 for 4mm. Data transfer rate is also based on this assumption. Actual speed and capacity is system dependent. Per tape capacities are based on 120M tape on 4mm and 160M tape on 8mm.
