Avax carries a range of tape and related products for the iSeries (AS/400) range from IBM. None of our units require special software drivers or patches, thus ensuring that integration is simple and straightforward, and that no problems occur when the OS/400 operating system is upgraded or IBM releases patches.

Backup Solutions Data Protection Unit disk-to-disk backup appliance
Backup your iSeries machine (and any Windows, Linux or Unix systems that you have) at network speed to a Data Protection Unit (DPU) backup appliance. DPU systems are available with capacities from 250GB to 8.8TB internal and up to 92TB with add-on disk.
Available with removable media or in RAID format, data can also be archived to tape (optional) or via a high-speed link to an off-site data vault (DPV) for immediate secure off site archiving.
- Ultra-SCSI Tape Array (TA80)
- High speed ultra-SCSI version of the Enhanced Array for the newer iSeries (AS/400) and RS/6000 systems. Dual drives (4mm, 8mm, DLT, LTO or 3590) with data striping, mirroring and off-line copy. Capacity to 140GBytes. Magstar® performance at much lower cost.
- Random Access Tape Library / Autoloader Units for iSeries (AS/400)
- High capacity, random access tape library units utilizing the Ultra-SCSI Tape Array (TA80) are now available with 8mm (AIT), LTO or DLT drives , in capacities from 400 GigaBytes to 2.8 TeraBytes. These library units appear to the host system as one or more 3590-B11 libraries, so no special software or device drives are required. Connection to feature 6501 or 2729.

Paranoia2 In-line tape encryption unit
Paranoia2 is the simplest and fastest way to add encryption to any AS400/iSeries system. The Paranoia2 box installs between the system and the tape drive. Just vary off the drive, install the unit, set your encryption keys and vary back on.
No changes to your backup procedures or software.
- TE40 ultra-SCSI tape interface/emulator
- Connect almost any 4mm, 8mm or DLT tape drive (including Sony AIT) to feature 6501 or 2729. Complete emulation of 3490 or 3590 drives for "plug and play" operation.
- 3490/3490E Plug Compatible sub-systems
- Avax offers a complete family of plug compatible 3490 and 3490E drives and stackers (3590 coming soon!), including a high-speed 9MB/sec unit. All of our 36 track (3490E) drives will read and write 18 track (3480/3490) format.
- Auto Load 9 Track Tape Drives
- Plug compatible, high performance, auto-loading reel-to-reel tape drives compatible with all models of iSeries (AS/400) and RS/6000. Need to transfer data to and from non iSeries (AS/400) sites? We also offer data interchange software to allow you to attach a 1/2" drive to almost any platform (e.g. Intel based) and read and write tapes in iSeries (AS/400) compatible format.
- High security in-line data encryption units
- Encrypt / decrypt data on the fly between the iSeries (AS/400) host system and a high speed SCSI tape drive. No changes need to be made to your OS or backup procedures.
- Used to share devices or to switch all the peripherals between a live and back-up system in a failback situation; making more use of existing peripherals by allowing them to be shared across multiple platforms.
Extenders
- A hardware device which allows a SCSI bus to operate over a distance of up to 40 kilometres using fibre optic cables; a major step forwards for high availability distributed processing, delivering the advantage of both speed and distance for open SCSI working.
