The DS2000 is a totally electronic replacement for the magnetic tape
drives that have traditionally been used for logging on telecom
switches. In addition, the DS2000 is able to perform intelligent
operations on the data content on the information contained in the data
stream.
The DS2000 application consists of four major subsystems: Collection,
Processing, Distribution, and Storage. Data is retrieved into the
system and formatted into files. These files are stored and copies are
sent to Processing where functions such as filtering, reformatting,
routing, or other operations may occur. The Distribution subsystem
supports file distribution to one or more sites. The Storage subsystem
places the files in storage for a selected period of time which allows
the data to be recovered or re-processed by the system in the event of
failures outside of the DS2000.
A specialized version of the DS2000 has also been developed for the
collection of billing information specific to the Telecommunications
environment. The DS2000 Data Server has been optimized for the
near-real-time data collection and processing of Call Detail Record
(CDR), Meter, and Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR) data for
billing and other downstream applications.
